Photography: The art and practice of creating images by capturing  light, shapes and colour.
Several years ago I decided to honour all the little things that made me happy to be alive. I began keeping my iPhone in an outer pocket of my bag, or in my coat pocket, wherever I went,  with the intention of photographing everything I saw that seemed new, exciting, interesting, quirky, funny or sweet. In other words, beautiful.
This practise has become an essential part of how I see the world and also how my art comes into being.
Photographing everyday snippets of life has offered me invaluable and almost infinite opportunities to learn about lighting, composition and perspective. I am not a professional photographer by any means, but the lens of my iPhone has helped me to hone my sense of light and shadow and of composition and scale.
Often, the pictures I take are the first" sketch" of a mosaic or collage that will soon begin to percolate in my imagination. Maybe it's the way a ray of morning sunshine hits the bowl of clementines on my kitchen counter. Or a line of blackbirds perched on the power lines outside my bedroom window. Or the horizontal sweep of the frozen waterfront on the coldest January morning.
(All photos are available as 8 by 10 inch or 11 by 14 inch prints, framed or unframed. $125 and $150 each. Please email me for details or requests.)

The Garden

The Waterfront

I live by the waterfront in a neighbourhood in Montreal's West Island. It's where the St. Lawrence River widens to become Lac St. Louis. The big, wide expanse of water and sky at he foot of my street is an ever-changing canvas. No two skies are ever alike. In the winter when it is bitingly cold, the sky is astonishingly blue. In the fall, just before the rain, the whole tableau goes steely grey. Every morning and every evening, pink, coral and lavender light shows take place at either end of the panorama, marking sunrise and sunset. I feel unbelievably lucky to live here. It is endlessly inspiring.

                          Hey there!  Thanks for visiting.
